Department of Missouri

of the

Military Order of the Purple Heart

 

Our Mission: The mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among Combat-Wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support necessary legislative initiatives, and most importantly, provide service to all veterans and their families.

Objectives: The Objectives of the Military Order of the Purple Heart are; educational, fraternal, historical and patriotic and to perpetuate the principles of liberty and justice which have created the United States of America. We do this by:

·         Commemorating all national patriotic holidays

·         Maintaining allegiance to the government of the United States of America

·         Preserving and strengthening comradeship and patriotism among members

·         assisting, aiding and comforting all needy and distressed members and their dependents

·         giving needed hospital and service work through its Veterans Administration certified service officers

·         cooperating with other civic and patriotic organizations having worthy objectives

·         keeping alive the achievements and memory of our country’s founders

·         cherishing the memory of General George Washington (who founded the Purple Heart at his headquarters at Newburgh-on-the-Hudson, on August 7, 1782

·         influencing and teaching our citizenry, in a loyal appreciation of American citizenship, with its responsibilities and privileges, and preserving and defending the United States of America from all enemies whomsoever.            

This Web-Site: The purpose of this web-site (for the Department of Missouri and its Chapters) is to:

·           provide information to our members and the public at large regarding

our structure, activities and aims, and

·           to foster growth through recognition of our patriotic and civic-minded

       activities within our communities to help all veterans, their families and

       veteran causes.

Chapters: The Department of Missouri of the Military Order of the Purple Heart has five (5) growing chapters in the State of Missouri, and new chapters being formed. Our current active chapters are located in St. Louis (Fenton), Springfield, Columbia, Joplin and Kansas City (see links).

Department Officers: Our “Departmental Officers” come from the ranks of our members in the various chapters across the state. These elected, volunteer and appointed officers attempt to ensure that our Order grows and prospers, that our by-laws are followed, and that the best interests of all chapters, our members and all veterans in Missouri are  treated fairly and with respect.

Membership: If you are a Combat-Wounded veteran and have been awarded the Purple Heart medal by the United States Government, you are eligible for “regular membership”. You may join any of the current chapters, or be instrumental in forming a new chapter in your area – ask us how.

You may also qualify for membership or as an “Associate Member”, if your mother or father was awarded the Purple Heart. We would love to hear from you and welcome you into our Order.

If you would like to receive membership information, please get in touch with the Chapter Commander, Senior Vice-Commander or Adjutant in a chapter near you, and we will help you get your application under way.
